 Kintamani

The villages of Kintamani and Penelokan provide a great view of the still active Mount Batur and its fantastic lake. Seven miles in diameter and sixty feet deep, Batur caldera is simply astounding. From Penelokan, take the road Kedisan on the shores of the lake where boats can be rented to cross over to Trunyan. The spectacular mountainous region around Kintamani with its deep Crater Lake and bubbling hot springs, make this region a must to visit. Batur Lake is the largest lake in Bali and the region offers some of the most spectacular views to be found anywhere on the island. Batur Lake also provides water for an underground network of streams and springs across the southern slopes of the mountain. Kintamani is really great for day trips, trekking or simply for getting away from it all for a few days.

Lembongan Island

Lembongan Island
Nusa Lembongan, a small island between Bali and Nusa Penida in Badung Strait, is the perfect holiday hideaway with few visitors and pristine un-spoilt beaches. A low, protected island about 11 km southeast of mainland Bali, measuring only four by three km and ringed with mangrove swamps, and palms and white sandy beaches. Inland the terrain is scrubby and very dry, with volcanic stonewalls and processional avenues crisscrossing the small cactus-covered hills. Overlooking Sanghiang Bay with its clear blue waters, the Nusa Lembongan Resort offers a panoramic view of eastern Bali and the majestic silhouette of Mount Agung. Known for its great surf, the excellent crystal-clear waters also make it a perfect place for snorkeling and diving. It's still a basic place, but interesting, and there are some lovely places to stay.

The island is small enough to explore on foot, offering pristine beaches and coves, majestic views of Mount Agung, unique Balinese architecture, and the friendliness of a simple country folk. With a lack of arable land and a severe shortage of tourist attractions, the island's economy is limited to its underwater wealth-seaweed. A secondary occupation is catering to visiting surfers. Between Nusa Lembongan and the adjacent of Nusa Ceningan Island, the population is only 60,000.
There are just two villages on Nusa Lembongan, the large, spread out administrative center of Lembongan Village, and Jungut Batu village. Surfers and backpackers hang out in the latter, about 150 per month, for an average stay of three to five days. The only other visitors are European, Japanese, and Australian day-trippers on excursion boats. Jungut Batu offers the island's best accommodations and water sport opportunities. There's motorcycle traffic between the two villages and it's easy to get a lift. Both villages are heavily involved in the cultivation of seaweed. Before government-supported commercial seafood production in 1980, the people of the island lived on maize, cassava, tuber, beans, and peanuts. Today most everyone is involved in one way or another with cultivation of "sea vegetables," and the air is permeated with its smell.
Visit the seaweed gardens at low tide; they look like gigantic underwater botanical gardens. Two kinds are grown, the small red pinusan and the large green kotoni. Almost the entire crop is exported to Hong Kong for use in the cosmetics and food processing industries. After harvesting, gatherers leave a floating offering of rice and flowers that gently drifts away on the outgoing tide.
Life on Nusa Lembongan is very relaxing, with cool breezes, little traffic, no big hotels, no pollution, no stress, no photocopy machines, and hardly any telephones. Best of all, there are almost no pedagang acung (pushy vendors) and few thieves. Jungut Batu's charming "tree house" bungalow-style accommodations with outdoors open-air 'mandi', rickety wooden furniture, sand floor restaurants and offices are reminiscent of Kuta Beach 20 years ago. Crops are meager, and the only fruit available is melon. All other food must be imported from the market in Denpasar or from the neighboring island of Nusa Penida.

Julia Roberts in Bali

Julia Roberts in Bali Next Month for 'Eat, Pray, Love'
It’s confirmed: The Pretty Woman herself, Hollywood actress Julia Roberts, will begin filming in Bali next month for the film adaptation of the best-selling book “Eat, Pray, Love.”

The Balinese provincial government confirmed on Friday it had issued the permits needed to shoot the film, with Roberts being scheduled to appear on set from Oct. 16 to Nov. 6.

“We have issued the permit to shoot in Gianyar. Their preparation is complete,” said Ida Bagus Puruvita, the Gianyar cultural office’s chief of permits and films.

The shoot is planned to take place at the traditional markets and Monkey Forest in Ubud, along with the nearby villages of Demayu and Tegalalang, and in Badung, Uluwatu and Nusa Dua.

Permits for these locations were obtained by the official representative of the production crew, Tino Taroengallo.

Puruvita said the government would supervise the shoot to ensure the crew did not take any unnecessary pictures related to local traditions or religion.

The screenplay will be written by American television writer Ryan Murphy, and produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment production company.

Roberts is an Academy Award-winning actress who has starred in many Hollywood films, including “Notting Hill” and “My Best Friend’s Wedding.”

“Eat, Pray, Love” is the best-selling memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert. It tells her story of overcoming a deep depression after a painful divorce during a journey of soul-searching and self-discovery. In her search for peace, she spends a year traveling in Italy, India and Indonesia.

While in Bali, the author learns how to balance earthly delights with spirituality and discovers the meaning of love.

The book has been the subject of much controversy in Bali because of passages about a Balinese medicine man the author met in Ubud. The man reportedly helped Balinese housewives with infertile husbands get pregnant by arranging sexual trysts with drivers and gigolos.

But Puruvita said he hoped the movie would promote Bali to the world. “Why impede it? After all, it will also promote [tourism] in Bali,” he said.

Gili Trawangan – Lombok Island

Vacation Travel - Villa Rental Bali - Cheap Hotel Bali - Nightlife in Bali - Rent Car - Restaurant in Bali

Gili Trawangan

The largest of the three islands, Gili Trawangan attracts the majority of visitors, it is around thirty minutes boat ride from the northwest mainland of Lombok and regular daily fast boats depart Bali directly to Trawangan island and all boats stop off at Teluk Nare on mainland Lombok as part of the return journey

The beaches of the Gilis are still powdery white, the water a beautiful clear blue and they are positioned perfectly for sunsets over Bali’s Mt Agung and sunrise over Lombok’s Mt Rinjani. Thirty years ago the Gili islands were uninhabited and only discovered by the seafaring Bugis people from Sulawesi. It was only a matter of time before the more adventurous backpacker types discovered the islands and developed Trawangan into a hippy party paradise destination.
Gili Trawangan now identifies itself as a great holiday destination suitable for families of all ages. Various new hotels, luxury villas, and boutique bungalows now cater to children and offer good value. Some have baby-sitting services, and with lots of activities on the islands families are sure to enjoy their beach holidays to the full.
Unique to the Gilis all forms of motorised transport are still not allowed - meaning the only way to get around is on foot, by bicycle and in pony carts known as Cidomos.

One sign of change is the recent introduction of the only ATM machine on the three Gili islands to be found at Hotel Vila Ombak.
It’s possible to follow the beach around the perimeter of the island in around two hours on foot. The most popular stretches of beaches are `Goodheart’ (the main stretch) and `North Beach’ where the best snorkelling is to be found.

All divecentres and many shack operations lining the beaches rent snorkelling equipment for around IDR 50,000 for half a day.
Hawkers are not so much of an issue on Gili Trawangan as in Bali; you’re likely to attract afriendly conversation from the locals rather than a hardcore sales pitch.
Beware of strong currents and do not attempt to swim between any of the islands.
With over twenty-five dive sites surrounding all three islands there are opportunities to dive any of the Gilis regardless of where you base yourself.
Most visitors stay on Gili Trawangan for the facilities and make the short hop out to the dive sites. Each dive school has its own fleet of traditional outrigger boats that ferry divers offshore to the walls and reefs where the best diving is to be found.

Aside from the obvious lure of snorkelling and diving, sunbathing and bar-hopping, Gili Trawangan has a fair amount of distractions to keep visitors both amused and entertained throughout the course of their stay.
Fishing trips and charters can be made with the local outrigger fishing boats who offer day trips with line fishing and trawling.

The Bio Rock is an environmental initiative set up by the Gili Eco Trust that over the last six years has hosted an annual Bio Rock workshop on Gili Trawangan. The artificial metal reef cages are fed a constant voltage of electricity to encourage coral regeneration and are a natural attraction for all forms of marine life. There are now thirty three individual projects in the Gilis and it’s possible to snorkel or dive around them and there’s even a PADI specialty course tailored to educate and involve a wider community.

THINGS TO DO -
Golf Trips to mainland Lombok and the very picturesque Lombok Kosaido Golf and Country Club are highly recommended. Suitable for all abilities this trip is a must as golfers arrive at hole four by speedboat where they are collected by a buggy and driven to the clubhouse prior to tee off. The course structure and landscaping makes for a relaxed golfing experience, neither too challenging nor too demanding.

Next door to the golf course is Hotel Tugu Lombok, perfect for a post-golf round of drinks before heading back to the islands by boat.

Horse Riding with the boys at the Stud Stables, is a great way to see the whole of the island. The perimeter of Gili Trawangan can be walked along the beach and Stud have experienced and professional guides. Even though the routes are very relaxed and not at all challenging the horse rides are best suited to more practiced riders.
Karma Kayak is the perfect way to combine sports with nature. Full training and a practice session with a qualified NKB/BCU instructor is given prior to embarking on a paddle across the channel to neighbouring Gili Meno for a picnic lunch.

A good way to round off a beach day is to catch sunset at `North Beach’ with jugs of Sangria and fresh Tapas and BBQs.

See-through dress which snared a prince up for sale

See-through dress which snared a prince up for sale
The see-through dress which helped Kate Middleton catch the eye of her husband-to-be Prince William is going under the hammer, the auctioneers said Monday.
The transparent lace dress worn during a charity fashion show at St Andrews University in Scotland is expected to fetch up to 10,000 pounds ($16,000, 12,000 euros) when it goes on sale next month.
Middleton, then aged 20, strode down the catwalk wearing the knitted mesh slip-dress and black underwear during the student show in 2002.
William, second in line to the throne, paid 200 pounds for a front-row seat and soon afterwards their friendship blossomed into romance. Some reports suggest he made his first move on her at a party later that evening.
The dress was designed by Charlotte Todd, who was a fashion and textile design student in 2000 at the University of the West of England in Bristol when she produced the garment for a project entitled "The Art of Seduction".
It took around a week to make and was intended as a skirt.
Two years later, she was invited to submit a garment for the annual St Andrews fashion show. The piece was selected for Middleton, who wore it as a dress.
"If it is true that my design helped change the prince's interest in Kate from platonic to romantic as has been reported, then I am pleased to have played a part - however minor," the 31-year-old said.
"I never would have imagined as I sat knitting this piece that one day it would be so important."
Todd did not pursue a career in fashion and is now a retail manager at an aquarium in Bristol, southwest England.
A spokesman for Kerry Taylor Auctions said the dress, which was only ever worn by Middleton, was expected to fetch between 8,000 and 10,000 pounds.
The auction, to be held in central London on March 17, also includes two gowns worn by William's mother, Diana, princess of Wales.
William and Kate will marry at Westminster Abbey in London on April 29.

Kate Middleton’s See-Through Dress Is Not For Sale

Vacation Travel - Villa Rental Bali - Cheap Hotel Bali - Nightlife in Bali - Rent Car - Restaurant in Bali

Once upon a time (actually in March 2002), a girl who did not know she would one day be a princess put on a see-through dress and sashayed her way down a runway in a fashion show at the University of St. Andrews. That girl was Kate Middleton, and her husband-to-be, Prince William, was sitting front row and whispered to a friend “Kate’s hot!” when she came down the runway. The rest, as they say, is history.
But for all the stories about how Kate and Wills are the prefect couple, and for all the speculation about what kind of queen Kate will be, it’s that dress that’s getting all the attention today. While its designer, Charlotte Todd, told the London Evening Standard that it only cost her £30 (about $50) and took a week to make, auction houses have estimated that the dress is currently worth £10,000 pounds, and could go for as much as £100,000 when Kate becomes queen. For those of you who don’t want to mess with a currency converter, that’s about $160,000 at current exchange.
So why is it so valuable? Per the Standard, “according to royal biographer Katie Nicholl, it was at a house party later that night that William made his first move on Kate — even though she had a boyfriend, Rupert Finch.”
But Todd vows that she won’t part with the dress, unless Kate herself asks her to.
“The dress is a part of fashion history — the moment William could first have fallen in love with Kate — and that makes me really proud,” she said. “I only made it as a skirt, but they pulled it up on Kate and she wore it as a dress. Maybe if it hadn’t have been see-through, William might not have noticed her. I definitely think it has a played a part in the royal love stor

Kate Middleton’s See-Through Dress Is For Sale!

Remember that fabled see-through dress that made Prince William fall in love with Kate Middleton? The one that designer Charlotte Todd swore she would never sell? Yeah, screw that. Now it’s totally up for sale.
Back in November, Todd said she wouldn’t sell the garment unless Kate gave her the go-ahead: “The dress is a part of fashion history — the moment William could first have fallen in love with Kate — and that makes me really proud…Maybe if it hadn’t have been see-through, William might not have noticed her. I definitely think it has a played a part in the royal love story.” Alas, the dress is going on the auction block next month in London.
The piece is expected to go for around $16,000; two of Princess Diana’s gowns will be sold at the same auction. We’re not sure if this means Kate’s cool with the whole dress selling thing or if Todd is trying to cash in on all the royal wedding hullabaloo, but we sort of assume the latter. Lame.
